It turned out her parents' name are Kathryn and David, she was born in Massachusetts, and her real name is Hillary. She's just been to Spain a lot when she was a child.

Latin is in fact an antique language, like Aramaic. Latin was the language spoken by ancient Romans, and still official language of Catholic priests. Basically nothing to do with Salsa or Rumba. Spanish language is totally based on Latin, that as much Latin the so called Latino have in relation to Latin. Americans are not very knowledgeable people, as British they make up their own rule instead of trying to understand the existing ones.

Latino DOES NOT MEAN LatinAmerican!!! LATINO means derived from LATIN!!! So we are Latinos because our languages Spanish and Portugese derived directly as dialects of LATIN, not because we are fans of Mambo, Salsa and Rumba!!! In all correctness, Spanish people, Italians, French, Portugese and Romanian are also LATINOS!!! HISPANIC and LATINO are practically interchangeable terms!!! (when dealing with spanish speaking latinos, that means, not from Brazil, Portugal, France, Italy and Romania) IBERIAN would be the correct term for people from Spain and Portugal.

Latinx does not fit phonetically into Portuguese or Spanish. it is unpronounceable for most of the 950 million latinos. This is a typical US-elites neologism and as such, you can keep it - for yourself. If you are saying that my language is not good enough and it has to be like German, who has an explicit neutral form, you can kiss my ass too.

If this topic isn't dead, as an American (main land) born Puerto Rican. I prefer Hispanic over Latin. But I won't allow Latinx to be how I'm referred to. It's an unnecessary word that is trying to gender neutralize a spanish word into English to make non-Hispanic/ Latin people feel better about what they say when they refer to us. Just use our terms and move on. I'm curious what other Puerto Rican people think...Latin or Hispanic?

"Latinx" is a term created by the uberwoke because the Spanish language is sexist. Because the language itself has gender and therefore uses terms like Latino(s) and Latina(s) instead of ignoring gender like properly politically correct people. Lucky we have the uberwoke to put those silly Spanish speakers in their place and teach them how to use their own language correctly. Seriously, if the woke want to have a politically correct term, don't correct the Spanish language. Make up another word instead of patronizingly "fixing" the Spanish word.

They always forget to include us portuguese with Spain. We were more than kissing cousins,. Portugal had pertained to Spain hundreds of years at a time multiple times. We are also Hispanic, though neither us or Spain are Latino because Latino refers specifically to south of the American border. With portuguese we also have Brazil which is a portuguese Spanish combo so they can also be Latino. I didn't know the full history of the symbiotic nature of Portugal and Spain until about ten years ago the last time my grandmother came to visit from Portugal before she passed away the following year. I always wondered why this never got discussed openly amongst the portuguese.

Latino/Latina/Latine I know the term latinx came about as a means to create a gender neutral term to describe a latin american person, but it seems as though romance-speaking speaking gender and sex scholars from this region have become more partial to Latine rather than Latinx. Latine (pronounced similar to saltine) is more preferable as its etymology is derrived from spanish and other romance languages (I hear this debate has also happened among Francophones, leading to the creation of pronouns similar like elle). Many Latinos are generally not fans of Latinx or Latin-X as they find it to be imposed on them by mostly American scholars (though not all, not to ignore specific groups of academia in Argentina who at one point tried to popularize gender neutral terms for latino with terms like "latinx" or "latin@") who in an attempt to cater toward this group have instead created a broadly unpopular and patronizing term that isn't even grammatically correct in Romance languages. Personally, Latine >>>>>> Latinx. Latine is better as it is grammatically correct as it, was made primarily by the academia and group it was designed to describe (the genderdiverse and genderqueer people of the Romance speaking world, and is just an easier word for people (gringo or latino) to get behind and work with.
