As someone who understands basic economics let me tell you: printing/minting more money doesn't help you, it just devalues your currency. Grab the Republicans by the fake hair and drag them into an agreement. Out of control debt is still better than a worthless currency.

Do you want hyperinflation because this is how you get hyperinflation. I know people always joke about printing machines go brrr and that the government just prints money but it is not as simple as that all the new money printed normally is balanced with debts owed back, while this is actually just printing money. Unless they are genuinely talking about a 3000 ton pure platinum coin this is not going to be bullion.

I don't know. The most recent annual federal budget is 6.8 trillion. So 1 trillion will last less than 2 months. If we are going to do something ridiculous like this, I say mint a 100 trillion dollar coin. It should wipe clean the national debt and still have enough money to last a decade or so. Then again, the repercussion of creating money from thin air like that will doom us all before anything else happens.

@Fμck You & Your Vaccines i mean they theoretically could, but keep in mind most of the debt is the US owning to the FED, most US debt is actually money printing. you see, the FED prints the money, then the govt. borrows the money from the FED, then banks put their money into the FED. this is basically a way to get around inflation with money printing by tryint to disguise it as a debt contract but the FED is well aware it's not getting it's printed bills paid back ever.

I fooled you and created a coin which costed me about a thousand dollar at most. Would you take that coin from me and be happy about it?" You do realize a million dollar bills also costs way less than a thousand dollars to make right? Its fiat currency, a pile of bills or a coin has whatever value the treasury says it does. Minting a trillion dollar coin is still a dumb idea cause it won't do inflation any favors, but its not somehow less real than the dollars represented by slips of green paper or numbers on a computer screen.

Folks hate to break it to ya. but BOTH Parties overspend. no accountability. and run financials like they have infinite pockets. Both Democrats and Republicans need to wake up and stand together against their endless spending. On top of that perhaps - just perhaps- don't give the pentagon hundreds of Billions of dollars a year beyond what we pay our Veterans and Service members. Defense spending is the WORST accountability in our nation and Contractors/Companies wring every single penny out they can, and our elected officials allow this to happen. "Balancing the budget" should be a no brainer since the IRS is part of the Government, yet all of these decades beyond what Clinton did, not ONE President has taken active steps to reduce the waste.

    • IONATVS

      IONATVS

      12 dagen geleden

@Trish Phillips (1) Linguistics and documented history are not propaganda just because you don’t like them. (2) Of course “Moses” is anglicized, it’s the ENGLISH translation of the name, not the original Hebrew מֹשֶׁה רַבֵּנוּ/Moshe Rabbenu. The definition of the word “anglicized” is “assimilated into English”. (3) The study of linguistics is inherently descriptivist, not prescriptivist-living languages are constantly changing and there is no legitimate objective authority that can arbitrate which changes or even existing language features are “correct” or “incorrect,” only the court of public opinion. And like it or not, most English speakers, including most English-speaking Jews, spell the English name of Moshe with an “s” and have done so for centuries. You can argue that “Mozes” is an *acceptable* English spelling (and you would be right, because there is a significant minority that does prefer that spelling and USE is what matters) but there is no linguistic basis for calling the older, more commonly accepted spelling “wrong” just because someone (even if that someone is a respected Rabbi, and had good reasons for that argument) argued “Mozes” better matched the pronunciation.

    • Trish Phillips

      Trish Phillips

      12 dagen geleden

@IONATVS No. Since I am _married_ to an Orthodox Jew, _named Moshe_ and _am_ a Jew, kindly don't spread anglicized _propaganda._

    • IONATVS

      IONATVS

      12 dagen geleden

No. The English name of the prophet has been spelled “Moses” since the Jewish Tanakh and Christian Bible were first seriously discussed in English, a borrowing from the Greek “Μωσῆς” and Vulgar Latin “Moȳses”. The spelling with “s” is not some neologism. It is *pronounced* “MO-zis” in English, but English spellings are generally assigned to hint at their language of origin and historical pronunciation, not merely its modern pronunciation, and under English spelling rules, using a spelled “s” to represent a pronounced “z” is perfectly normal.

The couldn't sell it for face value because face value is not real. They couldn't sell it period because it would be hotter than hell. They would have to melt it into one ounce of platinum

I see a blast of a crime movie coming up, about stealing a certain coin.

@CageyBee lol and do what with it? they won't be making more than one or two. Collectors might be willing to pay for the novelty, like stolen art, but its otherwise useless. Its not like someone has a few billion in cash to make change for it. You'd need to take it to a bank and no bank in the world would accept it because its undeniably stolen.

@Viktor Kelley it's legal tender worth 1 trillion dollars, pretty sure loads of people would still accept it.

A trillion is an unbelievably large number, I mean, it's a thousand billions, and if you tried to count all the way up to one billion, counting one number every second, it would take you more than 32 years. (A person celebrates, knowingly or not, their billionth second of life within their 32nd year.) So, it's pretty easy to extrapolate that out, if it takes more than 32 years to count to one billion, one second at a time, that means it would take some amount more than 32 thousand years to count to one trillion. (Don't try this at home, people. 😇✌)

@Piccalilli Pit I couldn't find a decent translation for it: "Handschmeichler" would be a pebble that feels completely organic in your palm...

@Piccalilli Pit To be fair: The thickness and weight of a £1 coin by far exceeds that of the average $1 or €1 coin...

Yeah - the average human mind can not encompass a billion... If you pile £1 coins 1000 high its about 12 feet. Then if you stack 1000 of those piles side by side - that's a million and its about 100 feet long, then stack 1000 walls together - that's a billion - a 100 feet X 100 feet x 12 feet high cube of money, now make it 12,000 feet tall... Thats a trillion. It would quite literally puncture the crust of the earth as gravity pulled it towards the centre.
